Optimization is key.
FIFA is making it’s return to Nintendo platforms after it’s one-and-done show on the Wii U back after Electronic Arts released FIFA 13 on Nintendo’s last generation platform.
FIFA 18 will run in a buttery smooth 60 frames per second in both handheld and docked mode, according to a developer working on the port. During Gamescom 2017, producer Andrei Lazarescu confirmed the game will output 1080p docked and 720p in handheld mode.
We spent a lot of time actually understanding what the console is. In dock, what we’re seeing right now, for example, is 1080p run running at 60 frames per second. When you plug out and you play in handheld it’s 720p. We spent a lot of time making sure that transition happens seamlessly and you still get 60 frames per second.
Besides not supporting Frostbite engine and missing The Journey mode, FIFA 18 is shaping up to be a much cleaner experience for a Nintendo platform after negligence of optimization by EA in previous years.
FIFA 18 releases on September 29th, don’t forget to pre-order your copy on Switch on Amazon and save up to 20% on your purchase.
